Family is a dear thing...and living away from home makes you realize that even more.
Today me & my dearest Daddy drove up to Cambridge to visit my Twin brother who resides nearby. We wanted to spend Father's Day all together & Cambridge is a lovely place to do that. With it's old impressive architecture surrounding [just look at that cathedral!], everyone riding round on their bicycles & a raft racers laughing along the river, it is truly a remarkable city. I combined luxe fabrics today to create a chilled out Sunday lunch style, perfect for travelling & those naughty little after lunch cakes!

Brighton + Shopping = Amazing!
Brighton is always a great day out…especially if the weather is nice! Walking round the quirky little lanes is a pleasure in the sunshine & it puts you in the best mood to search out the bargains! And today I am wearing my bargain buy from this week…the transitional dress. With subtle multi-coloured flecks running through the nearly black weave, I threw on this oversized dress & pulled it together with my Dad’s old leather belt! Leather is always best when it is worn in, so ta Dad, all I had to do was make a few smaller belt holes to cinch in the waist!

Venturing into the new-town shops I browsed H&M convinced that I wouldn’t find a thing…or wouldn’t give in to buying it rather! But then I started picking up garments to try on…for fun. Well that was a mistake! But the best mistake…

I was drawn to the jacket in the two images to the left due to its 'inverted' style collar, which was a nice twist on the generic masculine feature. However the tops were purely to try on the bottom-halves with!
I think I fell a little bit in love with these burgundy 100% silk [yes!] tailored trousers [center] as soon as I saw them...and even more when I tried them on! They fit loosely yet perfectly around all the right areas & make me feel like i'm wearing nothing...well, not much!
The skirt on the right had a similar effect, however it unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations. It's knitted structure ensured a great fit around the body and I loved how the shape graduated up & the back...and even possibly at the front as one could wear it both ways! However, knitted skirts & summer simply just don't mix well for me...but I will be attempting to make one as a wonderful transitional piece as soon as autumn pops its head around that golden corner...

Now to literally meet my wardrobe...
Being at home for a few days has many pluses. But is finding this in your wardrobe one?! You decide...

...of course it is! Hello Georgie!

MeetMySugarRush

Occasion: Friend’s Belated Birthday!

As my friend/flatmate was away for her birthday, Sean & I decided to have a chilled out day baking [as she worked] to surprise her with some yummy treats for her belated birthday. Working with what was in the cupboard & a bit of initiative we baked some cute cupcakes with vanilla frosting, topped with fresh strawberries & raspberries…the perfect summer baking!

MeetMyObsession

Everyone has a bit of an obsession.
However, recently mine has escalated…
Meet Larry…My Penguin Suitcase!

Annie: "Well I need it for my travels, it's perfect hand-luggage size!"

Penguins. They have always been my favourite animal for as long as my mind stretches back. However, when I discovered that my boyfriend shares the same No.1, I own near enough everything penguin based! It I near enough impossible for us to walk through the shops without seeing something branded with that streamlines shape & cute little face. So what do we do? I refuse that Sean has to buy it for me as I insist that we own a big enough ‘penguin family’ already. However, after further browsing round shops that adorable black & white animal is still filling our heads…and then our shopping bags!

MeetMyParkLife

Occasion: Parklife Festival!
Sunday: Day Two

Please excuse the tired look…partying all weekend is hard work!
Note: I know we are wearing the same shorts...I will explain later!

Outfit Recipe [let's take it from the top]...
  • My Angel tassel T-shirt *made & designed by me* [for sale in Little Treasures Boutique, Hastings… littletreasuresvintage.co.uk]
  • Ultra-sparkly denim shorts [Topshop]
  • Khaki parka coat

Dancing To...
  • De la Soul – ‘Three Is The Magic Number’
  • Dizzee Rascal – All the tunes, building up to ‘Bonkers!’

Lusting After…
  • Going on holiday *after Dizzee sung his song!*

So Sunday arrived...and so did the sunshine *thank the heavens!* Another appearance was made too...one of my new sparkly buys to dazzle the festival...my sequin encrusted denim hot pants! However, so did my friend Melissa...in the same shorts! After purchasing these beauties [the can be dressed up or down, hence the festival staple] she declared her love for them & went out & bought the same pair! I have always been told that copying is the highest form of flattery...

For the final day of the festival the top of the 'people to see' list were De La Soul & Dizzee Rascal! The old skool 90s band De La Soul were a classic to see  however struggled to get the young student crowd going. Dizzee however smashed the main stage [not literally!] & was an amazing way to end the weekend...

MeetMyParkLife

Occasion: Parklife Festival!
Saturday: Day One

I'm still smiling even though the weather was typical Manchester!

Outfit Recipe [let's take it from the top]...
  • Vintage vibrant red 80’s strapless playsuit *perfect ‘throw-on’ festival style!...although tricky when port-a-loos are involved!
  • Cream & peal wool jumper *a thin layer of wool will help keep you warm while partying on into the night!*
  • Khaki parka *unfortunately Manchester’s weather wasn't that promising*

A Sprinkle Of Accessories...
  • Black patent wellington boots *a festival must!*
  • Gold chain headband *to keep the hair in place all day*

With An Essence Of...
  • Mud!

Sipping on…
  • Cider *the drink of festivals!*

Dancing To...
  • Noah & the Whale [one of the festival’s headliners]

Lusting After…
  • Sunshine to wear proper summer festival gear!

Parklife weekend has finally arrived & I'm ready to party...even if it has to be in the mud!
However...in order to get my weekend ticket I was volunteering on the Saturday from 11-7, meaning I got to catch the headliners for the first day & let my hair down [well all that is the fringe!] on the Sunday! By the time my volunteering was finished [and after downing some confiscated drinks *shhhhh*] I managed to catch the American band Noah & the Whale rocking the main stage. Their songs sounded as good as the recordings...I just wish I knew a few more of their songs!

MeetMyDedication

Occasion: Moving Art Materials & Going To The Cinema To Celebrate
The End Of My Group Project!

Yes, I am sitting in a wheelbarrow!...

This is because today was the day that our group project officially ended [and our new summer project began…no rest for the wicked!]…but what to do with all our materials? Being a bit of a hoarder & not knowing where this would all end up if I just left it at our current workshop [20/22 in the Northern Quarter] I roped my boyfriend Sean into helping me wheel this lot and more all the way home!...Well he did the wheeling & I did the dealing!

But it was well worth it!...After investing in about 50 cushions all together to create a ‘comfy social seating area’ for Manchester’s Hipsters, that wasn’t such an expected hit due to this city’s iconic weather, I thought we might as well transfer our flat!

So now our decorated wheelbarrow [previous made to transfer ‘found material’ all across the town] is sitting in our kitchen with a selection of brightly coloured cushions overflowing it. And my flatmates got dug in straight away!

Outfit Recipe [let's take it from the top]...
  • Hot pink vest *tied up in a front knot to turn into a crop top to wear with high-waisted trousers*
  • Yellow ochre & pearl embellished suede leather bolero jacket *colour clashing is key in summer*
  • Navy blue brocade patterned high-waisted trousers *they have been called “Aladdin” pants & belly dancing trousers, but Mediterranean wide-leg free flowing trousers are the perfect shape right now*

A Sprinkle Of Accessories...
  • Handmade recycled African beaded earrings [see yesterday's post]

After wheeling around town I decided to treat my hand to a bit of sparkle…literally! As soon as I saw Barry M’s sparkle polish for only £2.99 I knew I had to get myself [& my nails] some! A few layers later & they were dazzling. Keep building up for more of a disco ball effect!

Lusting After…
  • More sparkly nail varnishes *in every colour!*

Watching...
  • Prometheus 3D [great effects but scarier than I expected!]

Munching on…
  • Popcorn *sweet of course!*

***********************************************************************************************************

Sean’s Outfit Recipe *As chosen by Annie*
Rockin’ The Double Denim 50s Style [let's take it from the top]...
  • Vintage denim jacket [actually mine]
  • Purple top [Topman]
  • Light denim jeans
  • Green ribbed socks *old skool*
  • Brown Brogues

A Sprinkle Of Accessories...
  • Black leather belt

With An Essence Of...
  • Lager!

Munching on…
  • Double hamburger & chips *which definitely defeated him!*

Dancing To...
  • The Kooks - Naive

Lusting After…

When picking out Sean’s outfit this morning [well this afternoon because we went out last night!] I began with the shoes & worked up, due to Manchester’s temperamental weather! Smart brown brogues combined with a t-shirt & jeans smartens up the look just enough for a chilled out Sunday lunch. The contrasting old skool ribbed green socks [reminds me of hockey!] elevate the look to a quirky level. Roll up the jeans a few times to further accentuate.
When deciding on an outer-layer I decided to really push the 50s style, complementing Sean’s slicked back quiff, with a denim jacket. The majority of people are actually afraid of denim clashing or as we now know it “double denim”, however more recently the look has become popular again & I think Sean has the right attitude to pull it off…

Sean's Verdict..."Amazing Manchester didn't know what hit it!"

MeetMyWeek

In Photographs...

Dressing at fashion shows make you realise how fast-paced the fashion industry really is…

I experiences hairy jock-straps, heavily embellished insect-inspired knitwear, wooden scaffold-structured outer-garments as well as layers & layers of garments topped off with amazing accessories like sweet little cherries on a cupcake [well maybe not so much the hairy jock-straps!]

However, this collection did remind me of a certain Martin Margiela's design...

Lady Gaga also pretentiously sported a similar style to numerous events...

But on the plus side, this dramatic look does attract a lot of press attention...

Some collections were sponsored by shoe brands, with Jeffrey Campbell [http://www.jeffreycampbellshoes.com/] providing all the shoes for the lucky ones… His cut-out heels topped off the look, complimenting the printed knitwear & pastel hues. I love the way he particularly plays around with the shoes' heels & soles, creating a totally unique heely-feeling.

My obsession with brogues would go into overload if I got my mits on a pair of these cut-out heeled versions, let alone this summer-friendly pair...

Imaginations were obviously running wild in the final year Fashion students at Manchester Metropolitan University as they were preparing their final collections for the catwalk.First in the running order was their Manchester Fashion Show, at The Museum of Science & Industry [MOSI], ironically where my group held our previous fashion show! However, it did make me realise how much work I have ahead of me in the up-and-coming two years of my life…the collections looked incredible!

This was all in preparation for the finale at London’s Annual Graduate Fashion Week, where only 14 of the collections have been chosen to walk the catwalk of opportunities.

This is where I aim to end up.
